We Made It

It’s that time of year – when we get introspective to reflect on what went right, what went wrong; what we loved, what made us sad.

As you remember what went on around us in 2011 (in the world), you can see from the video there were many highs and lows. In the end, like the video concludes with: we made it.

Personally, the same rings true for me: this blog was launched; I got a new jobHarper was born; We had an unforseen diagnosis; Jen and I celebrated 6 years together; Hit a new low in getting a speeding ticket; Climbed a mountain; Hit a wall; Ran a half-marathon with Jen; and Got furious at a Honey Baked Ham store.

Regardless of my circumstances, I’m reminded that my identity in Christ transcends all of that. Yes, I may have ups and downs — but I’m grateful that God stays the same. His view of me (redeemed, child, new creation, etc.) will never change.

In light of that, here’s to a memorable 2011 and an even better 2012!

What was your favorite memory from this past year?

I am so disappointed that you didn’t mention “hung out with Moe, not once, but twice”. You think you know a brother. Psshhhh! :)

Interesting year. Highs and lows on my end too. I’m glad I made it. I may have a few scars for it, but I made it! Wait… there are still a few days in December. If you don’t hear from me… I didn’t make it!

Dude! I forgot about that – I hung out with the Moe twice in 2011. I expect that to at least double in 2012. :)

Like you, I also had an interesting year! Lol.

I’m glad we made it, Dustin. I’ve been thinking about writing a similar post about my year and you’ve inspired me to do just that!

I would say it was my mission trip to Czech, not because I had never gone before (this was my 7th time), but because it was one of the more focused, powerful trips and has become the foundation for what we want to do there this upcoming July.

Our family writes an annual Christmas newsletter recapping our year’s events and happenings. There were definitely a lot of things to be thankful for this year. I think the opportunity to celebrate my 15th Anniversary was one of the best highlights from the entire year. A week away in Cape Cod with just my wife is hard to beat!

Firstly, loved that video. Good job Google o and Mat Kearney ftw!

This year has been crazy…what year isn’t? But hands-down, the best memory is becoming an uncle! Loving it!

My most memorable moment was my son being born. Also a top moment in my entire life. I think we will keep him around for a while. But I’m thinking 2012 will be an even better year for our family!

Resigning from one church pastorate and beginning a new one are the highlights for me. It has been tough, but God has been faithful.

Dustin, what accomplishments, my friend. You’ve done outstanding work on your blog and I can only assume you’ve made that kind of progress with your running and other feats this year. More than anything, it sounds like you proved that you could really go anywhere. That God was just waiting to show you the first steps of what was possible for you. I wish you the best in 2012!

Sounds like you’ve had quite a year. I guess the biggest thing for me this year was starting the education program (and making it through the first semester). Also Shiloh starting kindergarten.
