Look Who I Know!
While I wasn’t buddy-buddy with Samuel Powers, I did go to elementary school with him for a couple years. So, okay… I don’t know him.
But yes… he my one claim-to-fame in living in SoCal for 13 years growing up. Oh that, and meeting MacGyver at an LA Kings game. Or Ryan Seacreast in Hollywood.
Who am I kidding? I’m practically a D-list celebrity with this Who’s Who list of ‘friends’ I have!
::transition::
Confession: no real spiritual insight coming out of this post.
The end.

What ‘celebrities’ have you met?
Who would you like to meet?
Ally Garner
February 21, 2012Is that the same guy who played Screech on svtb?
Famous people I’ve met: Herschel Walker (yes, he counts), Paul Newman, Mick Jagger, George W Bush & his immed family, Pat Conroy, Amy Grant, Billy Graham, Kirk Franklin. That’s kind of an odd grouping I suppose. I’d love to have coffee with Rick Warren. If anybody can set that up for me, lemme know!
Dustin
February 21, 2012Yes, why yes it is… :) And, Herschel definitely counts!!!
Jonathan Pearson
February 21, 2012I met Chipper Jones (3rd baseman for the Atl Braves) when I was a kid. Other than that, I got nothin. I did, though, just gain mad respect for you since you knew Screech Powers!
Dustin
February 21, 2012Ha! Thanks Jonathan!
Jon Stolpe
February 21, 2012I met Garrison Keillor when he was doing Prairie Home Companion from Assembly Hall in Ocean Grove, NJ.
I’d love to me Bono (and Dustin V.)!

February 21, 2012That’s funny. My only “claim to fame” is sitting next to Snoop and his “entourage” at Super Bowl 39 in Jax. Got to meeting Stephen Curtis Chapman a few years ago – amazing guy.
Dustin
February 21, 2012Snoop… now that’s cool!
moe
February 21, 2012I’ve met Puff daddy (or is it diddy now?)by Century 21 in downtown Manhattan. I also met Victor Cruz from the Giants this year, Mariano Rivera in the highway once, Roger Clemens at a restaurant, MC Lyte while working the dressing rooms at the Gap (she tried on underwear – yuk!).
But more than anything, the biggest celebrities has to be Dustin Valencia and Ben Nunez. My palms were sweaty with those two. I fainted twice after I went home. :)
moe
February 21, 2012Forgot to mention, I met Charles Oakley at Latin Quarters (a nightclub (my sinful years)). He had 4 shorties with him. I was all like, “sup Oak, let me holla at you”. He was like, “nah man, go get your own shorties”. I cried in the ladies room after that. So I wrote “Charles Oakley sucks” on the ladies room with my red lipstick. (OK, that last part wasn’t true – kidding).
Dustin
February 22, 2012Oak… was he a NYC favorite? My wife still talks about John Starks when I mention the Knicks.
moe
February 22, 2012Oak did the dirty work. Dove for balls, aggressive and a rebound machine. Starks was the man. And who can forget when he dunked on Jordan (sort of): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCTfxOrX4k8
Ben NuneS
February 21, 2012Your palms were nasty sweaty, I had to disinfect the door knobs and everything!
Moe
February 21, 2012LOL. My sweat heals lepers bro! :0
Jon
February 21, 2012Cruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuz *salsa dance*
Dustin
February 22, 2012I think it may be just Diddy. In any event, it seems to be working for him! :)
And yes: anytime a Nunes/Vivas/Valencia meetup happens the angels rejoice…

February 21, 2012One of my favorite “celebrity” encounters was meeting Mac Powell in his hey day. We had seen them in concert in 4 different places because of hubs military service. At the 4th concert, we decided to go up at the end and say hi and tell him how many shows we had been to and why. He was so sincerely appreciative of hubs service and our love for the band. It was pretty cool. Too bad they’ve lost their mojo. :( I’ve met a few other artists post concert, but nobody HUGE.
I would LOVE to chit chat with NeedtoBreathe, although I probably would have no idea what to say to them except, “I love you!” wahahaha
Dustin
February 22, 2012I think I may have tweeted this last November when we say needtobreathe… but during the concert, jen turned to me and said, “i love you, D…. but i like them a lot!” :) it was funny.
i saw mac & his third day buddies at a swell season concert a few years back. he’s from my side of the country!
Jon
February 21, 2012I haven’t met anyone…I did see one of the actors from Gossip Girl (lol…my sister pointed it out to me, k!) filming a scene in NY. He was seriously right next to our car, and then we drove away haha.
I don’t know who I’d want to meet….I think I’d be awkward lol.
Dustin
February 22, 2012your sister? really, jon? it’s okay to admit it… we’re family here… :)
jenn
February 22, 2012Screech is awesome!
I’ve met the entire Chicago Bull’s team, but I was only a toddler at the time, so I don’t remember it. They carried me and my cousin onto a plane to help my very pregnant mom and aunt.
I’ve also met and had dinner with the guys from Down Here (Mark and Jason I think…). They aren’t extremely famous, but that’s all I’ve got.
Oh, and I saw Steven Curtis Chapman at Target in Franklin one time, but I didn’t talk to him.
Dustin
February 22, 2012Did you meet MJ? That would have been cool, especially in the heyday.
Jim F
February 22, 2012I met the old Christian Artist Geoff Moore in an elevator back about 14 years ago. I did shake Amy Grants hand while she was singing on stage and I am in the Wise Up video ( well my watch can be seen better than my face). Racking my brain here … I know there are other….
Love to meet Tebow and Bono…
Dustin
February 22, 2012Geoff Moore… wow that brings back memories. Did you meet The Distance? :)
(Oh, forgot about your Amy Grant video appearance. That’s way cool.)
JBussell
February 22, 2012Living in Nashville, friends from other places always ask me if I ever see any country music stars. And the answer is always no. You would think that living here essentially my whole life I would have seen at least one famous person. Oh well…
Dustin
February 23, 2012In time my friend… :)
rachelle
February 22, 2012I met Dennis Haskins in college and I really wish that camera phones were around then. When I worked at Chuck E. Cheese I waited on DJ Jazzy Jeff’s kids birthday party. I met Mandy Moore and the band Third Eye Blind at a pizza place. When I lived in France I met Matt Damon when I was watching them film The Borne Ultimatum. During a trip to London I met Julia Roberts and Clive Owens when they were filming Closer.
I’m not sure who I’d like to meet… that’s something to ponder!
Dustin
February 24, 2012Look at you! DJ Jazzy Jeff… that is awesome!
Loren Pinilis
February 22, 2012I once played putt-putt with a girl who went on to be an olympic silver medalist gymnast. We were like 7 at the time.
Dustin
February 24, 2012Childhood crush, huh? :)
Jason Vana
February 22, 2012So, they aren’t Hollywood famous, but I have met Mark Driscoll and Tommy Tenney before, and I’m told I look like David Schwimmer (Ross on Friends). Does that count?
Dustin
February 24, 2012Ross…yes, I see it!!!
Jody
July 19, 2016Fabulous! Must try it myself! Ive got that Eithne Farry book and I love it. I made my first A Line skirts from it, out of a 70s curtain. I also love her second book, Lovely Things to Make for Girls of Slender Means – although the icre;9pes' are even less detailed than in the first! xx
Stephen Haggerty
February 22, 2012As a kid, I once waited an hour outside David Hasselhoff’s set trailer for an autograph. It was the set of Baywatch, but I was there to meet Michael Knight.
Dustin
February 24, 2012Ha, that is awesome. Suuuuuure you were there to see Knight Rider himself… :)
Dewitt Robinson
February 22, 2012I have met a few Jacksonville Jaguars.
Dustin
February 24, 2012Sweet!
ThatGuyKC
February 23, 2012Haha! Sometimes you just have to post a little nonsense.
Most famous person I’ve actually met? Bill Cosby.
Most famous person I claim to be affiliated with? Winston Churchill. My great, great grandfather went to school with him (I have a photo of the 2 of them standing in a doorway).
Dustin
February 24, 2012If I remember correctly, I think I remember you saying something about Bill Cosby – something about a commercial when you were younger, right?
Adam
February 23, 2012Hilarious!
I have met Chipper Jones from the Braves. THat is about it…
Dustin
February 24, 2012Chipper is an ATL legend! (Although I’m a Smoltz guy myself)
